Project Frontyard partnered again with ULL student and blacksmith Sam Riehl to create a letter Y to sit in between the new concrete letters on display at Parc Sans Souci in downtown Lafayette. The Litter Letter 'Y' was used as a container to collect unwanted Mardi Gras beads during the recent carnival season. 2,940 lbs of beads were then collected, donated and recycled through LARC.
I initially created the Litter Letter Project in 2012 for my MFA thesis at Vermont College of Fine Arts with my main focus and research centered around using graphic design as a tool for behavioral change. It began as a local collaboration with a small group of people that developed into reality thanks to the funding and support from Keep Louisiana Beautiful. This website serves to document the project moving forward and its growth as it develops into other areas. It has been a wonderful journey so far working with so many great people in many communities as they create their own versions of this idea to address the issue.
